# Always-on seller agents turn business rules into production code. Govern the workflow, not the prompt.

Amazon’s Seller Assistant can now monitor inventory, pricing and account health continuously. Teams deploying persistent agents need versioned rules, scoped authority and auditable autonomous actions.

Amazon announced on 24 September that Seller Assistant can now run workflows continuously, monitoring inventory thresholds, competitive pricing and account-health alerts even when the seller is not logged in. The change matters beyond retail: an assistant that waits for a prompt is software a person invokes; an assistant that watches conditions and acts around the clock is an operating process.

Amazon says the assistant carries persistent memory of pricing patterns, inventory cycles and growth goals across Seller Central, Amazon Quick and, in beta, Anthropic’s Claude. It can interpret changes and respond dynamically rather than waiting for the seller to remember each recurring task.

## Persistence changes the control boundary

The obvious benefit is removing repetitive monitoring. The less obvious consequence is that a business rule can keep executing after the person who configured it has left the session. That shifts the security question from whether one prompt is safe to whether the standing workflow remains authorised as prices, stock, accounts and organisational roles change.

A workflow that was sensible when created can become unsafe later. A pricing threshold can outlive a promotion. An inventory rule can continue after a supplier changes. A user who configured an automation can move roles while the agent retains the context needed to keep acting.

> Persistent agents turn instructions into operational policy, so their authority needs a lifecycle of its own.

## Treat each workflow as a deployable control

Amazon says Seller Assistant executes with permission and keeps seller data within Amazon’s infrastructure. That is an important boundary, but enterprise operators still need controls around the workflow itself. Record who created it, what conditions trigger it, which actions it can take, which data it can read and when that authority expires or must be reviewed.

Version the rule separately from conversational history. A changed threshold or expanded action set should produce a reviewable configuration change, not disappear inside a chat transcript. High-impact actions should have tighter limits than monitoring actions, and every autonomous execution should retain the triggering condition and resulting action for investigation.

## Build an offboarding path before enabling autonomy

Before deploying persistent agents, test what happens when the owner loses access, a credential rotates, a policy changes or the downstream system becomes unavailable. Disablement must stop future autonomous actions without depending on the original user returning to the conversation.

The practical deployment checklist is therefore different from a chatbot review. Inventory persistent workflows, bind them to scoped identities, set expiry and review dates, log every autonomous action and make suspension centrally enforceable. The important control is not whether the agent remembers the seller. It is whether the organisation can reliably revoke what that memory is allowed to do.
